Your Bio

When I was in high school, I won’t mention what years I was enrolled, my dad came home one day with a really nice camera. It was a Nikon FE with a 50 mm prime lens and a 70-210 telephoto lens. I was in love! Something about holding a new piece of cutting edge (yes, it was cutting edge at that time) equipment in your hand makes you feel like an instant expert professional. How I talked my dad into letting me take it to school to take pictures for our yearbook, I don’t know. I wouldn’t have let me take it... He did, however, and I have been taking photos ever since.

The first time I really thought that being a photographer was the coolest thing on the planet, I was on a shoot for the yearbook on the sideline of a football game. I was never an athlete, but I liked the excitement that came with making a great play and scoring points. I could enjoy the excitement of the game, while not becoming cold and bored watching from the stands. On the sidelines, I was part of the game. I was following the action and I soon found that I was becoming more popular, because I was actually pretty good at it. A real perk in the high school years!

While in college, I concentrated my photography on one team at a time. I would pick a popular team and follow them for the season. The first team I chose to follow was the men’s lacrosse team. It was a smart move. Not only did I get to hang out with the “cool guys on campus,” the coach took me under his wing and allowed me to travel with the team as one of their managers. Occasionally I would keep score, haul equipment, and call media contacts with scores after games. Luckily, we had two other score keeper/managers, so I was able to take photos most of the time. I became the team promoter and photographer. I post my pictures in the field house display case and I started getting orders for copies right away. It was great!

Once I started actually getting paid for my work, I found myself doing portraits during the summers. My true love, however, will always be sports photography. I had such wonderful experiences and incredible support from everyone I worked with.

Many years later, o.k., almost twenty-five years later, I find myself mostly taking photos of my husband’s and children’s sporting events. Mommy friends started to ask me to take photos of their kids. Do you see a pattern? Opportunities are always open to you if you can deliver something people want. My father must have seen that, because he showed up on one of my birthdays with a brand new Nikon 300D, complete with telephoto lenses and accessories. He told me there were strings attached to the “gift,” however. He wanted me to get out and re-kindle the passion and excitement of my early days in photography and earn some money doing it.

So, here I am setting up my web site for “Yore Photos.” I’m letting people know that I am taking photographs and if they check out the website and like my pictures, they are welcome to purchase them. I hope you find something special in the photos I produce, whether it is a record of your own memories or something you just like to look at. Enjoy!

PS: I want to thank the people and teams I am photographing. You’re all amazing!
